About the product:

All our garments are made in Europe. Our boots are made in Spain, in small family-run factories with long tradition. Socks are made in northern Portugal due to the proximity and high quality of the suppliers.

All leathers and elemets that make up the boots are sourced in Europe. The wool’s treatment and spinning also takes place in Europe.

The Merino wool that we use at Skaapherder comes from the main producing areas such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Patagonia. We only use certified non-mulesing wool and with animal welfare guarantees. Merino wool in Europe is very limited and generally of inferior quality. We closely follow new projects to boost European wool and make it competitive again.

At Skaapherder, we only use synthetic fibres for the manufacture of socks due to technical needs and in the smallest possible proportion. A sock made of 100% Merino wool would not have the necessary elasticity and resistance to face long and demanding hikes or treks. We do not use any type of polyester in our garments, only polyamide (resistance) and elastane (perfect fit). Unlike other brands, which only use Merino wool yarn mixed with synthetic fibres, all our garments contain 100% Merino wool yarn.

Our boots are made of leather of European origin and come from GOLD-rated tanneries by the Leather Working Group (LWG). We do not use textile linings or artificial membranes. We only use the Vibram rubber sole and a layer of EVA rubber as a second midsole for a better seal with the vibram sole.

No. Skaapherder is a small family business specializing in outdoor clothing. We concentrate on studying and designing the best product we can and, subsequently, looking for the suppliers that can best manufacture according to design criteria. Our priority is to produce the best products for our customers. We stay independent so that our focus is always on quality rather than beholden to a board, or shareholders, that whose primary goal is profit.

No. These and other technologies designed to provide garments with greater breathability or thermal insulation use oil derivatives, mainly polyester and teflon. These synthetic fibres are widely employed to lower production costs.

We rely on the natural technology of full-grain leather and Merino wool, which combines breathability and thermal insulation in a single fibre. This way, we make the best use of these by-products from the meat industry.

We try to match our sizes as much as possible to the reality of consumers. You can check the size charts in the product sheets. It is important that you make sure you choose your size correctly, in order to avoid unnecessary returns with the corresponding extra cost of shipping the product for replacement.

All our products offer a warranty against manufacturing defects for two years from the date of purchase. The warranty does not include damage caused by misuse or normal wear.
